Risk Free Credit Card Transactions on the Web

Shop the Web without any risk of having your credit card or identity stolen! I have been waiting for this for a few years. Citi Bank and others offer it now. If you are buying Handmade Jewelry or other items on-line, things just got safer then using your credit card at Wal-Mart.

Virtual credit card numbers are now available. These are random credit card numbers that are generated by your bank and billed to your real credit card number, without anyone seeing that number. These numbers are only good for one use, so they can't be stolen. They are the safest way to use a credit card.

Virtual Credit Card Numbers are not good for every transaction. If you need the number to verify a reservation, an airline or hotel, it won't work. Once the number is used, the account is closed.

Pixie Jewels recommends that you start using these services. The one we use from Citi Bank is free. This recent article in the Washington Post can give you more information.

BIRTHSTONES

Birthdays are marked with traditional celebrations, songs, cakes, and the connection to gemstones. This is a listing of the modern Birthstones. This list was adopted in 1912 by the American National Association of Jewelers and is the accepted list in the United States. After you have found the gemstone for the month you are interested in, go to Our Handmade Jewelry Store and type the name of the gemstone in the search engine. You will get a list of our jewelry designs that contain that stone.

January - Garnet

February - Amethyst

March - Aquamarine

April - Diamond

May - Emerald

June - Pearl or Moonstone

July - Ruby

August - Peridot

September - Sapphire

October - Opal or Tourmaline

November - Yellow Topaz or Citrine

December - Blue Topaz

CARING FOR YOUR GEMSTONE AND PRECIOUS METAL JEWELRY

After you have found a piece of jewelry that you love, you need to know how to care for your treasure. If cared for properly, your new jewelry will last for a lifetime. These are the basics for most jewelry types.

· Sterling silver will tarnish. Salt from your skin and oxygen in air are the two biggest causes of tarnished silver. To avoid this, clean your jewelry frequently using soap and water, then pat dry. You can also use a Jewelers cloth to clean and shine your jewelry. Sterling silver pieces should be stored in sealed plastic bags to keep them from tarnishing.

· Check for loose gems and clasps before wearing your jewelry.

· Always remove your jewelry when engaging in physical activities. Toe rings need to be removed before your trip to the beach.

· Do not expose your jewelry to household chemicals. Many stones can be damaged or lose their luster from household cleaning products. Put your jewelry on after you have applied make-up, hair products, or fragrances.

· Stranded gemstone necklaces, chokers and bracelets need to be re-stranded about every two years. Gemstone beads have sharp edges that will eventually cut through the stranding material that holds your stones. Nothing is worse than having half a necklace spill on to the floor.

· Metals and gemstones can cut and scratch each other. Never store your jewelry in a pile. Always separate your pieces by wrapping them in plastic or cloth before storing.
